The South West Rail and Heritage Centre is operated as a partnership between Rail Heritage WA and the Boyanup Foundation Inc.
The two hectare site upon which the Centre stands is leased from the Public Transport Authority by Rail Heritage WA and the Foundation contributes to the operating costs of the Centre.
The South West Rail and Heritage Centre has previously operated under a number of titles, including the Boyanup Transport Museum, Boyanup Train Museum and Boyanup Museum of Transportation and Rural Industries, and has adopted its new name since 2012 when the site was reopened after a prolonged period of closure.
The Boyanup Foundation Inc is comprised of representatives from the five resident groups that operate on the site along with community and council representatives. The Foundation is the umbrella group that co-ordinates the Open Days, takes responsibility for the overall management of the site including maintenance of the agricultural machinery collection and is the liaison between all stakeholders in the site.
